Cabbies 'unsure' over plans
Taxi drivers in the town of Melksham in Wiltshire have expressed concern over plans to give the area's marketplace a makeover, according to a report.
News resource This is Wiltshire stated that cabbies in the town are unsure over whether their taxi rank will fit into the new design.
According to Paul Carter, of Paul's Taxis in Chiltern Close, the town's makeover will see the number of taxi spaces reduced from seven to six.
Mr Carter is set to meet with a number of people behind the plans to discuss the possible impact of a reduction in spaces.
"It's not that we are being argumentative, we just want something that can work. They have decided to defer a decision for a fortnight until July 13 and a full town council meeting," he said.
Taxi drivers in Wokingham recently spoke up over the safety of drivers at night at ranks in the town.
One cabbie has recently been left needing surgery after an attack by a group of men and now, taxi drivers in the town say they need more protection at the ranks at night.
