Fake cabbies given criminal records
Two fake private hire drivers in Somerset have been handed criminal records by local police after they were found guilty of operating without licences.
One of the drivers was found to be operating without a valid licence or taxi insurance, while the other did not have the relevant vehicle paperwork to make his business legal. However, the pair continued to work despite local officials informing them they needed to get their affairs in order.
Environmental health spokesperson councillor Ric Pallister commented: "Thankfully it is only a very small number of drivers who do not get their licences or keep their vehicles in a safe condition - the majority are hard working individuals who have sought all the necessary paperwork, taxi insurance and vehicle checks."
Elsewhere, Pembrokeshire taxi driver David Mark Buckingham was recently fined by his local council for working while being banned.
Mr Buckingham was fined £465 and ordered to cease operating until his suspension had been completed.
